"Heating elements burned out" 2007-01-26

The element on top burned out and B&D has stopped making this model. So the oven hanging hood can longer be used. They are replacing the oven and waiving the fee's since I can no longer use the hood.

This is the second replacement in less than I year.

The toast function broken in 2 months. It always flamed up if baking the salmon fish. (Scary and dangerous!!) I called B&D Customer Service, and they said this item was NOT manufacturered by B&D! (Why use the brand B&D if B&D won't be responsible for this oven?) The warranty works like this: Within the 1st year from the date of purchase, you have to call the customer service, and they will direct you to another manufacturer phone number. After you call this number, they will ask you to cut the electric plug with wire about 5~7 inches and send it to some address along with a copy of the recipt and a $8.00 check to cover the S&H for the replacement unit. That's not too much work, but very much frustrated! Buyer has to pay for the shipping costs for the defective unit. (I mean, the defective unit is manufacturer's fault, why should I pay for it?!) After you send your plug away before you receive your replacement unit, you have no oven to use! That's why I need a RELIABLE oven to rely on!! This toaster oven is not reliable, nor responsible!

I purchased the toaster oven 8 months ago, I don't know who designed the take down tray for cleanning. You have to take it off the cupboard hanger and tip it upside down to clean the crumbs out it tips down to ward the wall back and I don't have the space to do that. It is very hard to lift it up and out to clean and dangerous. I have had other toaster ovens like this but the bottom tray lifted down from the front of the toaster.

Although this arrived with a screw loose that I had to tighten, the unit works really well. It's small,light weight and very quick to toast breads fast and evenly. It has an extremly simple control system that is unbelievely easy to use. I bought this unit for a vacation home and I like it better than the much more expensive (and complicated)toaster oven I have at home.

The only negative is that the top gets quite hot when the unit is in use, otherwise I'm very happy with it.

While Krup Toaster ovens are high price and high performance, the broiler pans have a fragile teflon coating that scratches off easily. First time in the dishwasher left significant scratches. Obviously shouldn't use metal tools when broiling with this etc. Pity that Krup diddn't include either a porcelain or stainless steel finish. Only positive about this pan is that lacking a durable finish is that it is cheap.

A previous reviewer pointed out that the top/bottom heating elements do not work at the same time unless you're "toast"ing. I tried to "bake" things several times and all were inevitably burned on the bottom. Now I understand why. Also, the door will not stay open. It slams shut immediately, unless you hold it down with something while you take the food out. My husband bought this as a Christmas gift because it was "on sale". Now I know why! It's worthless!

This toaster oven has been such a pain. I have a young baby and often have her in my hands. The toaster oven door won't stay open unless it is all the way down resting on the counter. When you want to toast you just turn the knob on and keep checking it every few seconds. Sometimes it toasts very fast, other times it takes forever. Also, every time we use it there is a loud BANG after the thing cools down. I'm going out to buy a new one today. Ugh.

As we took it out of the box, my 8yr old daughter laughed and said it looked really cheap! (cheaper than her light-bulb oven). The noise isn't as loud as expected from other reviews. Toast is even, but dry. It does well with pizza, broiled sandwiches and reheating things. With the fan and an empty oven, temps match the dial setting, compared with an oven thermometer set inside. With food blocking the fan, it isn't as exact. Without the fan, temps are at least 75 degrees hotter- impossible to get a low temp. You can't remove something from the back without pulling the rack out. It isn't supported well and the rack ALWAYS falls onto the door, sending hot food on your hand or floor. Even when I try holding it still, it becomes unbalanced as food is moved, with one side of the rack falling sideways. I had to figure out why. The ledge that holds the rack is rounded and the rack isn't wide enough to sit firmly. Also, there is no ledge in front of the fan, so the right side is missing support when it is half-way out. The door and back become very hot, but the handle is cool. Controls are easy to set. Even if you get a great sale price, it might not be worth it. If you don't need exact temps and don't mind a flimsy rack, it does a good job with simple reheating. I had bought 2, to give one as a gift, but I'd feel bad giving it to someone. Back to the store.

I bought this at Macy's because the price was good for a large convection toaster oven, and the parts felt solid and not plastic-y cheap. This will be my fourth TO in twenty-five years after a dinky but serviceable GE (lost in a move after college), and two DeLonghis (heating elements warped or quit) in which I could just fit and nicely roast a small chicken, or a pan of au gratin potatoes, or toast the daily bread. I could not find a comparable DeLonghi at Target or Linens N Things or Macy's this week, and thought I'd try something new (excited about the convection feature). Here's the deal: the upper and lower elements ONLY work at the same time in TOAST mode; in BAKE/ROAST only the LOWER elements work! Of coarse broil only uses the upper elements; but I want to roast a chicken! The convection fan is VERY loud, especially with the tick of the timer, and every time the thermostat drops the temp, the oven bangs like it was hit with a hammer. Even with the fan on, only the bottom of the oven heats up, so after an HOUR (!!!) at 400 degrees the pan juices were boiling, but the chicken itself I could lift out of the pan with my bare hands (!!!!!) to place into a proper roasting pan to cook in my gas oven. There is no excuse for this kind of trash, which is going straight back to Macy's. Shame on modern manufacturing that allows such products to come to market.

Purchased this oven at Lowe's because it had all the qualities I was looking for. Room for a pizza, timer, broiler function, etc. Unfortunately, it turns off after about three minutes. Tried to cook a pizza in it last night and it would go for about three minutes then shut off. Same when I set it for a timed bake. it's going back tomorrow.

I purchased mine to replace a toaster and a old toaster oven. This unit does an excellent job at cooking or reheating pizza. It does not "Toast" very well. The bread comes out hard throughout but the outer surfaces never "brown" as it will in a normal toaster. I would not purchase this unit again and I do not recommmend it.

On 1/11/09 I purchased the Euro-Pro TO31 digital conv. oven. Like other reviewers on several sites that I've since read opinions of this oven on, I too thought it was a really great oven, at first. Cosmetic look was great, lots of space inside,had lots of features. I thought I had it mastered pretty well, it baked & toasted great. On 2/5/09, less than a month later, I needed to use the broiler to brown some ribs, before baking. Broiling in one of these ovens is a useless procedure. The broiling temp. on this oven is suppossed to automatically be at 450. The top (broiling heat element) gets a little hot, but the bottom element gets fire red & instead of broiling, it's like frying from the heat from the bottom unit. No broiling from this oven! Also, please save yourself the dissaterous experience of calling their customer service tollfree ph # on front of manual to ask a question, & actually get some customer service. If anyone can ruin your day their cust. serv. reps. will be the ones to do it for ya. My rep. was from India, couldn't speak or understand English very well, & I got the total runaround & no help. If you have a problem, don't call them, not only did they want me pay to send this unit back to them for repairs & not replacement, they tried to sell me other items during my complaint phone call. Need I say more about this outfit ? I took it back to the store I purchased it from & got my money refunded.

I live in Phoenix, AZ and it gets really hot in the summer,about 115 degrees and above kind of hot. Year round I never use a traditional oven and seldom a stove top. A counter oven is a must. I have used them before but this is really a great one. It is huge inside. I can fit a 13" pizza pan it it. I bake medium sized pizzas,(not those cheap little ones.) pies, cookies, anything I want. It bakes quite well. I will be fixing my turkey breast in it for Thanksgiving. One has to learn how to use it just like anything else. I attached it to a power strip and use that to switch it on. There is no reason that it has to be on when I am not using it. The temp goes down to 210 that is low enough, if I wish to warm things up I nuke them that is why I have a microwave. I haven't toasted in it as I have a toaster. For the price with no sales tax or shipping I am happy with it. Looks great on the counter and uses very little space. The best part is I NEVER, EVER have to clean a huge nasty oven. It is definitely a good buy. Oh by the way I am not a doctor which has no bearing on a product review and most of the doctors I know aren't very bright anyway.

This was a gift. I would have never purchased anything so big. I am waiting for the day that it dies. Based on the reviews, its death is not that far away.

Way too much oven for our needs. If you want something that toasts quickly, this is the wrong choice. I have two little kids that eat a lot of waffles, english muffins etc. By time this is done toasting, they are usually on to something else. Not for people who need to move quickly in the morning.

The oven is a potential fire hazard. First of all, the whole thing gets really hot. Even the handle?. That is why it is less than $50. They put no energy into designing this behemoth of a toaster oven.

I am giving this a 2 for now, I may revisit when and if it falls apart within a year.

Several annoying features; for some odd reason there is two different timers, one for the oven, the other for the toaster, with a third dial for temperature. Either timer can be turned on without the actual heating element being on. The timer is mechanical and loud and can be on even if the oven is unplugged. This toaster oven did not last, the temperature setting feature melted and no longer heated the elements within a very short time period (year+)

"Markings Wore Off With Cleaning" 2007-03-08

I had this oven in white for about six months and the numbers and markings wore off with cleaning. I am not a compulsive cleaner and probably only cleaned it once every two or three weeks.

B&D replaced the oven with another one when I called them and mailed them the end of the electrical cord and an additional $7.50. They didn't have a white one so they sent black. It has been about six months now and again the numbers and markings are wearing off the black one too.

They are sending me another oven, as soon as I send the the cord end and a letter statng the problem. They also wanted me to send another $7.50 but waived the fee when I said I would not give them more money.

They suggested that what I use to clean the toaster ovens was too harsh. I use the same thing on every appliance in the kitchen and this is the only one to lose the markings.

I bought this oven a little over a year ago and the oven portion just stopped working. The first one I bought was burning things and thought it was just a fluke, so I exchanged it for the same one. That was a mistake. It also takes forever to toast things. How can companies justify selling a product with only a 1 year warranty!! Cuisinart has 3 year warranties on their toaster ovens and great ratings.

No, I do not use it for toast as that's not it's best feature due its large size, but I do use it as a subsitute for cooking in my full size oven for smaller meals and leftovers. Pizza, baked chicken & fish, are handled very well. It's a very good option for a kitchen or cook who likes options.

I loved this toaster for the first year of it's life. Then about 6 months ago I started having problems with the controls. They wouldn't always respond and got tempermental. They would only work when they felt like it. I called customer service and they will send me out a new unit but I have to pay for postage. Still though, it's better than having to buy a brand new toaster. But if I had to do it all again, I would have just bought a different more reliable toaster oven.

*****UPDATE*****I received my replacement oven and it is so much better. They sent me the newer model CTO6301. It is digital and has so many more functions than this outdated model. I've only used it a few times but I love it. I will update again in a few months.

This toaster is made cheaply. It takes two or three times to get the lever to stay pushed down so that it will toast. It seems like one level burns a bit while the next notch down makes it not quite toasted enough. It feels very cheap, like I'm about to break the lever each time I use it. However, there is one good feature: it allows you to pull up on the lever to raise the toast up high enough that you can pull it out without burning yourself.

I loved the style, functions and even toasting of this model! Too bad the slice rest are a little flimsy; made of cheap metal. After three days, one bent, using the high-lift feature. Which caused it to get stuck down and not raise anymore; If Oster would use a different type or grade metal; it would be A Great Toaster! "I hate this toaster. Want my old one back!!" 2009-02-26

My husband got this Oster 6334 for me for Christmas 2007, as I was tired of doing batches of toast for the 4 of us with our old 2 slice model. I wish he had done some research, as this is not a cheap toaster. We sent men to the moon before I was born; haven't we perfected toasters yet?!!

Problems-

This 4 slice-toaster takes forever to toast bread (white or wheat), and when it's FINALLY done, the bread is toasted UNEVENLY. One side is way darker than the other. I have experimented by adjusting the temperature setting (I usually set it around 5; the max is 7) to no avail. I am not going to flip the bread halfway through toasting!

Bonus- the crumb tray is effective at catching crumbs and is easy to clean.

Sorry, Honey, I'm going to look for a replacement.

We really like this toaster oven and have used it successfully for over 3 years. I will admit that we do not use it for toasting bread, it simply takes too long because of it's size. But I use it multiple times every day for cooking and warming food. Since we do not use a microwave due to the research that I have read about it causing cancer, this oven is indispensable to me. I don't like to turn on the big oven unless I really need to, and this little one is perfect for most jobs.

We received this oven as a gift to replace a smaller older B&D toaster oven. We wish we had never made the switch. This oven heats inconsistently-- sometimes it gets very hot and sometimes it doesn't seem to be hot at all. When it does get itself going, it cooks unevenly, burning everything placed in the rear. It cools down quickly, but puts out a good amount of heat on all sides while cooking, and sometimes it feels hotter outside than in. Last night I put a piece of apple pie in the oven in a piece of foil and it took 30 minutes at the 300 degree setting to get to lukewarm. Save your money and look for something else.

We've had this toast-r-oven for about 2.5 years. It worked fine for approximately 6 months until the oven feature conked out. Based on other reviews, this seems to be a common occurrence. The toaster function is still working fine, but at nearly 18 inches wide, this monstrosity is much to large (not to mention sloooow) to function solely as bread toaster. Plus it requires that the bread be flipped frequently for even browning. The timer makes a super loud and annoying ticking sound. (Though we don't have pets of our own, we can't use the toaster when dog-sitting because it drives the visiting canines bonkers.) The only reason I put up with it for so long is that I've been too poor and too lazy to purchase a replacement. We're currently searching for a new toast-r-oven and it likely won't be a Black & Decker.

We bought this toaster from Target for $40. I was originally after a different model, but Target wasn't carrying that model locally. After looking at their selection, I chose this model because of its small footprint.

I haven't been keen on Sunbeam products in the past (a grill, a toaster and a blender they made all broke within 90 days). But this model had a lot of nice extras. The slide out grate is a handy feature. The crumb tray is easy to remove for cleaning, and easy to put back in. I like the dials, prefering them over buttons as you can be a little more precise. The size was compact but still able to hold most items I wanted to cook. It looks very well made too - the black gloss coating is a nice touch and looks great.

In use, it has performed very well - with one major problem. The toast function is completely random. At times, I put it on the lightest setting and it turns my bread into charcoal. Other times - on the same exact settings - it will barely warm the bread. The bell that is supposed to signal that your food is finished toasting goes off too early sometimes, too late at other times. As I type this, the oven is sitting outside to cool off, having just transformed another 2 slices of bread into shriveled squares of charred breakfast hopes.

In all, I like the features of this toaster oven. But I wanted a toaster oven that wouldn't require me to babysit my baked goods for fear of them catching on fire. Since this model (or at least the unit I got) seems to be equipped with a "random cook" feature, I have to deduct 2 stars. Maybe you'll have better luck.

We have owned this toaster for a few months now. We were happy with a nice, B&D stainless steel model we had for 5 years until it finally died. Finding a solid, affordable toaster oven proved a daunting task to say the least.

We have a small area of space so we needed a quality product with a small footprint. This model fits perfectly. I think the outside measurements are roughly 10 wide by 9.5 high by 13 deep.

It toasts beautifully and quickly! Faster than the timer indicates! Both sides were evenly done as well. Baking and broiling were also a pleasure.

This model offers a nifty slide out rack with insulated handles that are NOT hot to touch. The bread crumb debris tray at the bottom slides out and cleans quickly without fuss.

We purchased this item locally at Target for $33.00. A bargain indeed.

I would have given this item 5 stars if the electrical plug was flatter and on a 90 degree downward angle. Instead it is like most plugs...it sticks straight out! I would expect the designers to know we do not want our plugs rubbing or touching the backs of hot toaster ovens by now!

Fantastic time saver for parents of young cooks. While I was concerned about my 5th grader using the large gas oven to cook chicken nuggets and french fries, this new toaster/oven is just her size. The baking tray holds just the right amount for her and her six year old sister. The tray is not heavy and bulky like conventional cookie sheets and thus less chance of burning herself. I only wish there was a timer on the toaster/oven. Even without it, I am still very pleased with the ease of use. I place aluminum foil on the baking tray for easy cleanup. Concise, easy to read dials that even a 50 year old can understand. Strong enough for a man, but my girls love it too.

I bought this toaster about a week ago after searching hard for the smallest toaster oven I could find that simply does the "classic" things (toast /reheat/ fish sticks etc., not trying to actually cook a meal) and I am quite happy with it. At first I burnt the tops of a couple things I was heating, like a mini pizza, but I realized it simply cooked quicker than my old toaster oven and needed less time. That's a GOOD thing. The toast element is WONDERFUL. The crumb tray is great, and I've just left the bake tray in while toasting to catch the crumbs there - very easy to remove and clear. I would recommend especially if you have limited counter space like me.

Really like this toaster. Toast slot fits big bagels/slices of bread and does a great job. My only gripe is with the height of the inside of the oven. If ONLY they added another inch or two! Food baking in the oven tends to be too close to the heating element, overcooking the top. Tried to bake with 2 ramekins and the top came out a little burnt. Other than that, this is a great toaster. Cute, doesn't take up to much room and simple to use.

After having an expensive toaster that I loved go bad on me (a Braun) and finding out that Braun no longer will be selling them so they could not replace it, I had to find one that would do the job as well.

The Toastation had the same size single slot as the Braun, so I figured I would try it.

While it does not toast quite as evenly as the Braun did, it is reasonably close. The toast operation is just as speedy as that was, and the added benefit is that for bigger things, or the occasional grilled cheese, I don't have to heat up the big oven, nor do I have to use up counter space for a separate toaster oven.

This version has a "cancel" button in the center of the bottom dial, so when you want to pop up your toast early, it's really easy to do, unlike the earlier model. In addition, there is insulating covering on the handle for the door, so it is much less likely to burn you after using the oven part. Another bonus is that the top is smooth on this one, so there are no seams on the top for crumbs to get caught in. It also has a crumb tray that is easily removable on the bottom of the oven.

Overall, this product definitely works for me. If it is still working in a few months (the Braun broke at 4 months!), I'll post an update.

I bought this toaster oven several months ago and I've been very pleased with it. It was a welcome addition to my small dorm, and definitely helped me diversify my eating options. I can cook almost anything in the oven, from English muffins to baked potatoes to mozzarella sticks. There are only a few minor problems that I've noticed. Toast doesn't cook evenly in this oven, so you have to flip it over halfway through. Also, after using the oven at any temperature, the sides seem to pop out (toward the inside), making it difficult or impossible to replace the rack or the tray until the oven has cooled down. Neither of these things has been hugely inconvenient, however, and I definitely recommend the product. It's an excellent value.

Purchased this item at Target a month ago. Recently was toasting a piece of pita bread and the toaster oven didn't turn off at the end of the timer. an update on a previous review for this item but not relocated. It works great. a basic no nonsense toaster oven. My old Black & Decker finally died but I was dismayed to find that all the toaster ovens I looked at had shrunk their oven size .. especially in the height. I could no longer get an average muffin or baked potato in the new ones.. (yes I know,,just microwave them.. ugh especially baked potatoes. ) anyhow this one has sufficient height and two rack levels. The only minor thing is an uneven toasting for bread.. one side will toast faster so you need to flip the toast.. but that is ok for the extra space for doing small things.. like a small loaf of banana bread.. and not heating up the big oven.. Also ALL the ones which say 4 slice or 6 slice.. it is all lies. Bread has gotten bigger and good home made loaves generate slices too big to cram in to the advertised space .. but that is ok too. If you need more room in a toaster oven for a variety of small items, this one has it.

The cover is better than the exposed oven. It has a dual heating unit above and below pizza tray. Beware it is difficult to remove the hot pizza from the oven! I now use pot holder mitts to remove the whole tray and slide the pizza in to another tray. When using dual heat I usualy end up burning the bottom a little. You have to adjust the time to figure out how you want the pizza to be cooked. 7-8 minutes per the pizza's thickness.

We love the pizza we make with this product. The only drawback is they seem to go out fairly quickly. We are on our 4th unit in 2 years and have taken to buying a backup knowing it could die at any time. Every time it stops working suddenly as if a fuse has blown, but we can't find any way to repair it. Because it works so well we will probably keep buying replacements. If anyone know how to repair it we would be so grateful...

Well, I didn't have the really awful problems other people had, like knobs falling off and fires, but this thing is pretty hard to use, because both rack positions are too close to the heating element. Neither one hits the middle of the oven. The top one is like an inch from the top heating element, and the bottom one is about an inch from the bottom heating element! Was there no quality control on this thing? Did the people who made it not understand that you need to hit the middle? It's impossible to cook anything evenly, and nearly impossible not to burn everything. Also it's about 25 degrees hotter than the setting says. I do like how the bottom tray slides out - it's easy to clean. But other than that, not good.

I loved my last toastmaster toaster oven, a "cool steel" one that didn't get hot on the outside among other things, and I searched far and wide for a replacement, nothing else would do! This was the closest thing I could find. I hate it, it's awful. Takes a long time for some things, it is very difficult to time them correctly, and burns other things to a crisp. The rack sets too close to the element so the top of what you are cooking can burn before the rest is even very warm. We have nearly burned the house down with this thing numerous times because there is no "toast" setting or button, just a lower range on the timer, which is way too long. Also that range is on the bottom of the dial, so at counter height the marks under the dial are kind of hidden from view.

YOu have to stand there and pay really close attention while toasting, and if you are distracted, be prepared to take the battery out of your smoke detector and air the house out. I don't like the new deeper shape either, makes you reach way into that hot box to get the stuff out. The marks wore off around the timer dial right away so it is hard to know how much time you are setting something for.

Anyway, it's just a real disappointment and I could go on - but I wrote things out in a more intelligible manner than I have done here and sent my comments to Salton (toastmaster) and they basically responded "sorry you feel that way" and that was it. Anyway, don't buy this one, get another!

A toaster has only one job...to toast. Light, medium or dark. After many years of frustration and a handful of other toasters, I finally found one that doesn't break down and that really works.

I have used this product for over a year and have never had to readjust the darkness setting. No more burnt toast!!

I use this toaster every day and sometimes twice a day. It is very consistent and easy to use. The darkness setting is accurate. I have toasted everything from various sizes and thicknesses of bread, bagels, hamburger rolls and even slices of pound cake.It has two cute little drawers underneath that hold the crumbs. A 4 slice toaster that allows you to toast 2 slices or 4 slices with individual darkness knobs,and its own red light to indicate when its toasting.As you push down the lever(s) to start toasting , grippers hold the bread in place. So, if you have a slightly bent piece of bread, it holds it straight. A convenient red light goes on when you start toasting. If you want to stop the process, just press the light and the toast pops up. The lever can be pushed up further to allow shorter pieces of toast to be removed.

This toaster is GREAT for the price. It meets all of my expectations: It makes toast! Toast a bagel, toast a muffin, toast bread---it'll toast anything toastable, (even my square bread machine bread) and toasts evenly to boot! It toasts WAAAAAY better than my old B&D toaster oven (which by the way went out to the trash the same day my new toaster arrived). I really like the cancel feature, and the extra lift feature is nice as well...I have had no problem getting my english muffins out after toasting.

All this talk of toast is making me hungry---think I'll go make more toast!

I am very disappointed with this toaster. It toasts very unevenly - one side of the bread much darker than the other and in one slot one bottom corner doesn't toast at all. I thought the lifter was a great idea but the toast comes up not as far as in my old toaster and when I use the lifter it only lifts it as high as the old one did. It's not really a lifter at all.

We bought this because it has 4 slots and it has a raise-up feature to lift up the toast when it's done. It doesn't raise up very high and it won't raise up at all if the waffle is tipped enough to one side to get bumped in the way so you have to tip the waffle to where it's more upright so that it could be raised up. We love the red buttons! The red buttons light up on each side that is being used for toasting so that you know something is inside being toasted. That's not the only sign though because the red hot burners are glowing brightly red so you know it's toasting. What makes the red buttons a great feature is that they also function as a cancel button - press the red button and the toasting immediately stops and the toast pops up. Great feature! We would buy this toaster again because we can't see spending a lot of money on a toaster even though we use it almost daily.

This toaster is a complete piece of trash. It cooks so unevenly that everything is burned to a literal cinder on the bottom before the top is finished cooking. Even the toast function does not work and I have to use multiple cycles, turning the piece of bread 180 degrees in between the cycles to compensate for the uneven cooking. I have ruined my last meal trying to use this product because as soon as it cools down enough to pick up I am throwing it in the garbage where it belongs and I am going to buy another one to replace it. Don't be suckered into buying this toaster oven because you will be sorry!!

I loved this little toaster oven. The price was right, and I was getting used to its little oddities. For example, the toast setting is a guess each time. BUT... within 4 months, the temperature knob broke, and it cannot be fixed. I am now using a screw driver to turn the knob. I am sure having to turn the knob forward past 20 minutes before turning it backward to the desired temperature probably puts too much drag on the knob. Considering the number of reviewers who have commented on this problem, it clear it is an design flaw which negates any positives. Resist the temptation... don't buy this product.

This is my first toaster oven; bought mine at a local B&M store. It seems to be alright so far, but there are a few things I want to point out.

Knobs: Cheap feeling, and the timer knob is broken. I suspect this is a known problem based on other people complaining of the same issue. I emailed Oster to get a replacement knob and they were very quick to offer a replacement upgrade oven (said they did not have any knobs).

Hot: I think this is a very common problem due to the very nature of toaster ovens: The top, rear, and the silver section on the front where the knobs reside get VERY hot. The rear is thin 1-ply sheet of metal and is not insulated at all. The top is multi-walled/thick, but it gets very hot still, especially with the glass panel on the top. I'm not sure what's up with the metal section behind the knobs getting hot, this seems like a very strange place to generate heat, not to mention dangerous since your hands go there and I'm sure there are some electrical components back there somewhere.

Glass Panel on the Top: People seem to like this , but I view it as a HUGE loss point for heat, which equals more electricity usage and less effective distribution of heat. The whole door is glass, so I just look through there to see how my food is coming along.

Other than these few things, this oven works fine for me; seems to cook food evenly, and there are enough of the typical settings to find the correct setting to cook most anything that will fit inside.

I'm giving this two stars because it didn't explode or fail completely. I also liked the looks and certain promised features well enough to buy it in the first place, so it has a couple things going for it. But I would advise against buying it.

We got ours from Target, on clearance (I wonder why?) in late October. By November, the timer knob was falling off all the time and broken, and by December it wouldn't go on at all. The plastic part at the back of the knob that attached it to the metal prong inside just broke into several pieces. At first they were stuck around the metal prong, but eventually they fell out. I tried using heatsafe glue to reconnect the broken pieces to the knob and then just push the knob back onto the prong, but the plastic was actually stressed to the point it had deformed too much to glue into any workable position. (Much like when you stretch plastic by bending it back and forth repeatedly.) We are currently using a screwdriver to turn the metal stump that originally held the knob. I believe the problem lies in that the knobs are made of and connected by inferior material, and the directions require you to turn the knob past the 20 minute mark, then back, if you want a time of less than 20 minutes, which for things like toast or bagels or bread, you usually do. When you do that, you can feel that it doesn't feel right. But that's what they tell you to do. There are two other knobs that we aren't using any more than we have to now because they feel stiff and poorly-moving like the broken one did.

Apart from the knobs, the toaster set promised a baking sheet, broiler pan, and removable crumb tray. After some confusion, we realized that the "baking pan" is the bottom of the broiler pan. Not exactly as promised. If they're making a big deal of pans because they fit in the featured drawer, they should include the pans as described, not fudge it.

As for the function, it's hit or miss. There are a lot of hot spots and variations you have to get used to with this, and somehow even though it seems to cook the food and bread products, they don't really get very hot. You can make a rock-hard piece of toast that butter won't melt on even though you just removed it from a hot oven. Don't ask me how it happens. However, toast is usually burned in this oven, as is pretty much anything cooked on the Toast setting. I usually "toast" my bread on the Bake setting, since every time I've used Toast my bread comes out charred. Other members of my family eat their toast with minimal charring as long as they literally sit in front of the toaster watching it so it doesn't burn.

Just to be clear, I've used toaster ovens all my life. I've never regularly used a plain old standup toaster. So my criticism is in no part a criticism of toaster ovens in general. I love toaster ovens. I've heard they take longer to toast bread than plain toasters. This one seems to take way less time on the Toast setting to totally incinerate my bread. On the Bake setting it seems normal to speedy.

The heating elements are totally exposed and very easy to burn yourself on. I'm not saying I'm agile with all appliances, but I've never burned myself with any toaster oven as much as I have this one, and I've had at least seven. I think the elements are also the culprit with the cooking issues. They run EXTREMELY hot, so if you position food directly over or under them, it burns without exception. Trying to center the food plus repositioning the racks to get food the proper distance from the elements leads to a lot of inadvertent burns on the back of the hand trying to get the food just so it will heat but not burn. Yes, heating elements have to be hot to cook food, but they shouldn't burn food that is cooking at a mild temperature (say 325º) for just 5 minutes on a rack in a position specified by the manufacturer. You simply cannot put food directly above an element, ever. The bottom elements are also wedged right above the crumb tray, which warps with heat whenever you use the toaster, so it's impossible to get out unless it's completely cool.

I don't really like how this oven reheats meats and fish, either. Whether on 325º or 350º or 375º, this oven overcooks the food without getting it to a really hot temperature. I don't understand how it happens. I reheat rare steaks a lot and they are never heated enough until they're very well done (I've been getting roast cuts so they reheat okay and stay tasty). In my old DeLonghis I could get the steak to sizzle on the outside while being warm on the inside but still pink. In this toaster it can be sizzling like crazy but refrigerated on the inside. I'd try Broil, but it it similar to the crematory Toast setting, and I haven't wanted to waste any steaks yet.

The Bake setting does do a great job reheating casserole-type dishes and pastas like manicotti. The outsides and sauces don't overheat and separate very often. You just have to cut things into small enough pieces so the inside gets hot.

Several aspects of the design of this toaster are winners. It looks great. I'm looking at it right now, and even with its stumpy hole, I love its cute modern-but-retro look and sleek round-edged top. The drawer to store pans, the glass top, large capacity, and the wide front view are all very nice. The sides stay relatively cool for an oven, and in general you don't feel waves of heat coming at you when it's on. I like the 4 positions for the oven rack, but they really should have included two racks so you can cook more things at once. But none of the design perks make up for the lack of performance in this appliance.

I really wanted this oven to work out, especially since I was the one who selected it. I was excited about it. But unfortunately it's the worst toaster oven I've ever owned or used. I'm going to be trying the Black & Decker CTO6301 6-Slice Convection Toast-R-Oven, Stainless Steel next, and will update how it is in comparison. It's about $10-$15 more, depending on the day's price, but if it works the way a toaster oven should, I'm thrilled to pay that.

I bought this two years ago to replace my old Black and Decker, and was fairly pleased. I utilize a toaster oven nearly every day, rather than fire up the full-sized oven. It is roomier and has two positions for the inside rack. However, the broiler rack and tray are very susceptible to rust and not at all easy to clean. I have to use the old-fashioned oven cleaner. It also gets a bit discolored around the edges of the door. Otherwise it worked like a charm until the faceplate where the controls are began to crack. Probably from frequent use. I dug out the old warranty information and called the company expecting to get the runaround. Amazingly enough, they are shipping a new model, no questions asked. I provided them with a credit card to cover shipping ($15) and I have to return the old one upon receipt of the new one. Not bad!

Then try to mount the hood and connect the toaster oven without adequate instructions. It is again a huge and frustrating task. I had to use a dremel tool to take off two flanges that were in the way and no explanation for their use.

Disappointed. Although well made, you cannot make toast in it unless you do one side at a time. There's a tray that covers the bottom where the heating coils are, so toasting can only be made from the top coils. Also, the rotisserie is almost impossible to use for chicken. Very poorly designed. The chicken constantly comes off the spit, and that's only if you were able to get it on the spit to begin with. I also don't care for the way it broils. It seems very slow and the meat comes out tough and dry. I've had a few other ovens before that did a much better job all around, although this is the first one I've had with a rotisserie.

I've been using this model for a couple of weeeks now - faultless performance.

I like the dials as opposed to digital operation. one caveat: under the door handle are metal screws attaching it to the door. They get hot enough to cause a very small burn on a fingertip and should be sheltered, however, it's not serious enough to cause blistering.

This is my second DeLonghi with a similar size and configuration and I am pleased. The first one is still in use and functioning well after more than five years. Use an oven thermometer to check the temperature on crucial projects and open the door as little as possible -the heat dissipates quickly.

I usually cook in small quantities and this oven is satisfactory for regular daily use with no need to heat the larger range oven.

Simply: Rotisserie unusable unless its 1 lb squab super trussed, dont even try a small chicken. Broiler pan cannot be used with rack and support slots allow for the shallow pan to tilt and spill fat and can cause GREASE FIRES! Heat elements are marginal compared to MANY delongis I have owned. There is a reason why this model is on sale. Designer should be forced to cook with what they hath wrought as punishment. Winner of the Dante's Convection Oven Contest.

We have owned two of these ovens. The first was red. It lasted about ten years. Our current oven is black; it's in it's fourth year. It does a fine job of toasting - with grill marks! Baked potatoes come out crisp-skinned and perfect. We have never broiled, so I cannot comment on that function - sounds too messy for a toaster oven. It is a very stylist appliance to adorn a kitchen!

Absolutely the worst toaster oven I have ever owned, and I have had several brands over the years. I bought it expecting a high quality item that would last for years. Instead we found the bread and bagel took ages to toast, and then was toasted unevenly. The oven seemed to overheat. And the dials were a complete annoyance as they were constantly being left on the wrong setting (toast/bake). Not to mention the damned ticking.

The coup de grace was when the top element melted down while toasting and completely fell to pieces on top of an English muffin. I won't be replacing it with another DeLonghi product, believe me.

The door on ours too won't shut, the spring hardly works to keep it shut, and don't forget the annoying ticking sound that the toaster timer makes, that is if you can determine where the unidentified little knobs are pointed in the first place! Unfortunately, there was only ONE review when I bought this appliance. Guess which one. Discontinue this bomb! (Zero stars should be an option!).

After a few months, the heat of the oven melted the hinges of the glass door and warped the handle. I had to throw it out. Even when it was working, the toast, was not evenly browned, striped on one side and was very dry. This is the second product of this company which has given me trouble. I've learned my lesson.

I've used this mount since I moved into my house in 1990. It's a little ugly, but it has worked perfectly. Actually, I give the mount 4 stars. But, I have to average in the Black & Decker oven that fits it, and that brings it down to about 2 stars. They seem to last a few years, but I have had three literally go up in flames.

A couple of weeks ago, after it toasted some bread, I went into another room to eat. A few minutes later the smoke alarm went off. Although the control was shut off, the oven had shorted inside and continued to cook, until it was in flames. Once I unpluged it, the flames immediately died down to a small flame, but I had to use a wet towel to get it into the sink. The hood did completely protect my cabinet.

I have a small kitchen, and this is the only mountable toaster oven. I am actually considering another one! I just have be certain to check to see that it is off before leaving the house or going to bed, which I should do anyway.

This model of B&D toaster is not for the faint of heart. I believe it is likely to catch fire eventually, and if you panic, you might lose your house. (In fact, I think they have discontinued the mounts and this toaster.)

The door doesn't close tightly.

The dials don't properly point to the task you select.

The top coils burn your baking items before the lower ones heat up - broiling is really all you can do.

I have used a small (two slice) B & D toaster oven for several years. It still works good, but I wanted a bigger one.

This one looks nice and blended in with my other appliances (bad choice)

I bought this and toasted one slice of bread to see how long it would take. In just a couple of minutes the toast was burned and in the middle of the bread, was an even more burned circle.

I put in two pieces of bread and on the same setting. It was terrible

top half of one slice was overtoasted and the other top half was undertoasted. The opposite side of the bread was overtoasted.

I am amazed at the uneveness of the toasting. It will be returned and I am not sure which brand I will try next.

Purchasing this oven through Amazon was painless and flawless. What a GREAT way to shop for anything! OK - onto the oven itself:

It has a good feel, the oven door is smooth and doesn't scrape or creak like so many others. It has two wire racks that can be flipped over for a wide variety of positions within the oven. And it has a crumb tray at the bottom that pulls out easily for cleaning right from the front. What a great idea.

It turns on - and off - with a rotary count-down timer dial. It can be set for up to an hour. None of the other toaster ovens I've had automatically turned off so I look forward to this safety improvement. I just hope a crank dial is as durable as a simple on/off switch.

The only negative so far - and it's a big one - is the top elements burn a LOT hotter than the bottom ones. They are really cookin' by the time the bottom ones start heating up and seem to burn brighter in general. The bottom rack when positioned normally sits almost right on the bottom elements and initially, I figured that was way too close. But after seeing how the heating elements work (whether in the toast setting or bake setting) it looks like I'll be cooking everything on the bottom rack in that position. Maybe this oven is defective - maybe not. Since I don't eat toast I have no idea if this oven can toast evenly, but I am skeptical. If all you want is a toaster oven for your morning toast, I'd check out the reviews of ones that say they're great for toast specifically. I use mine to bake eggs and enchiladas and it's handling the task OK. Looking at how variable all the toaster oven reviews are, maybe it's impossible to make a toaster oven that can handle everything perfectly. Luckily, I think I've found one that can handle the types of foods I'll be using it for. Since it has a nice feel and it wasn't very expensive, I'm satisfied.

After over a decade of trustworthy service my Black and Decker finally gave up the ghost. With a lot of research I selected this as its replacement. I have not been disappointed. Things I love about this toaster oven:

-2 racks! I can bake off a tray of salad croutons and another of almonds at the same time. Or cook breakfast sausages and finish a frittata - at the same time. Or keep two plates of dinner warm - at the same time! This has been really handy for all kinds of things when I'm in a hurry and don't want to be juggling (small) hot pans.

-The timer. No need to worry about burning the pine nuts again. Just set the timer and the oven turns off when the time runs out. Easy.

-Great size for my fairly small kitchen. An 8" sauté pan fits inside with the oven door only open a little for the handle to stick out. This is great for finishing dishes under the broiler. Similarly, to heat or hold food, dinner plates fit in without a problem. Considering this, it takes up much less countertop than many other models with similar interior space. (I haven't tried 6 slices of toast, but 4 is no problem).

-It looks and feels pretty good. I went to several stores to look at the design and check out the feel of as many items as possible before purchasing. This is actually how I found the Toastmaster. Initially it wasn't even on my list, short or otherwise. The Toastmaster holds it's own against any toaster in the price range, and I even preferred it over the DiLonghi. Its lines are simple and understated, the knobs feel sturdy, not like they'll fall off in a month, and the door opens and closes nicely.

Things I don't love:

-Maybe a little complicated to use, but if you can drive a car you can certainly work this toaster before your morning coffee has kicked in. The section on how to toast bread actually took almost two pages in the instruction manual! However, all that text translates to a few basic steps, and I'm making toast just fine, except for my next point...

-Uneven broiling. Portions at the back of the unit definitely get darker than those at the front. This means you might want to rotate things halfway through, but for me neither unevenness nor rotating is really a big deal, so this doesn't bother me too much. The trade in capacity and overall product quality is worth it.

The product description says "spacious" and that is just NOT true at all. The interior is very small. Can only use one rack at a time. Not worth the price at all. Can get a much bigger one for this price of $99.

I bought it on sale for $41.50 and while it looks good on the outside, the inside is way too small for my needs. I do not see how it is possible to get 6 slices of bread in there unless you would totally overlap all of them. Interior width (left to right) is about 11 inches, wall to wall. Depth (front to back) is about 9 inches. You have about 3 inches (top to bottom- plus you have to consider the heating coils on top take away from this measurement, decreasing cooking space) of space to actually use for your baking pan or tray with food on it, on the rack. The wording on the knobs and buttons on my unit were crooked. The instruction/recipe booklet is a total joke. There are no diagrams/pictures as to how to insert the trays and pans. There is 1 picture of the unit, so if you are unfamilar with toaster ovens, you would be lost. I have looked at many online and many instore, but have never owned one. While it may not seem like it would be hard to figure out how to insert the trays and pans, it is. There is the crumb tray, the drip pan, the baking tray and the rack. The only way I can figure out how to use the drip pan is to lay it directly onto the heating coils. To me, that doesn't sound right, but it is the only way it fits in there. And if you use that, you lose space for cooking. If you use the drip pan, then the rack sits crooked inside. You have to use the rack to use the bake pan. The rack sits crookedly or slanted no matter what, even if you only insert the rack, it is crooked. You can, of course, put the drip pan in the bake pan on the rack, which is maybe how you are supposed to do it. The instructions for use are lacking. This is just so totally not worth the price at all. For this price you can get the 3 tray counter top rotisserie/convection oven, which is what I originally wanted. The description leads you to believe you could bake a pie in here. Guess again. Not gonna happen. Unless it is a tiny pie and it had better not rise or you will be scraping off the roof of the interior. This was a bad purchase all the way around. I think the $99 price tag is grossly ridiculous for this thing. If you want to use it to make 2 slices of toast, and don't mind paying $99 to do so, then this is for you. If you have hopes of doing ANYTHING else, buy something else.

EDIT: Ok, I took a minute to go check, to be fair, and you can get 4 slices of bread in there if you squish them all into the bake pan that the unit comes with. No way in heck that you are getting 6 slices in there unless you put 2 slices on top of each other and then it will touch the top of the oven. And I used regular bread, nothing fancy or oversized. This thing is a mess and the product description is NOT accurate at all!

This purchase was very disappointing to me. I have been wanting a toaster oven for so long. I had my heart set on a particular one, but have been waiting on a sale. I decided to buy this one thinking I would use it til I got the one I wanted, eventually. I can't fathom keeping this even for the interim.

I am gonna upload pics, they might not be so good as I am using a 2mp cell phone cam. I don't think they show the crooked wording well or the slanted baking rack.

I hope this review helps someone in one way or another.

Needless to say, this thing is goin back.

We didn't really use this very often, mostly for reheating pizza. I never found it to be good for toast as it took forever and toasted unevenly. But it came in handy now and then. However, two days ago I went to make some bagel pizzas for the kids and while the tick tick of the timer sounded, nothing else worked properly. I tried several outlets. Wasn't the issue. No lights and no heat.

I usually read reviews before buying appliances. Either this was so new that the reviews weren't out yet or I bought on impulse. Either way, I'm disappointed. We've had this maybe 2 years...??

I think I'll be checking out another brand for the next toaster oven.

what i liked was the easy clean catch tray. the height had been less, it probably would have cooked toast faster. Think'll I"ll go back to black & Decker's $20 models when they come on sale again.

I owned a DeLonghi Convection Oven for 15 years that work flawlessly until it gave out. I bought this in November 2008 to replace it and on April 2009 smoke started to billow out of the vents of the oven as the wiring shorted out and the house filled with smoke. Lucky I was standing nearby to unplug it and rush it outside the house. I am a huge DeLonghi fan and have owned and used their products for decades with excellent results. This is the first time that I have ever had a problem. I noticed that I am not the only one here that had the oven fail prematurely. Let's see how well DeLonghi takes care of my problem. I will post an update if that happens.

I did a lot of research into the best toaster oven. Here's what I found.

* If you want to use this as a small oven as well (saves on some electricity since you are not heating an entire oven) the best one out there is the Breville Oven which I found at WIlliam Sonoma. At about $300 it is a pricey investment, but if you can afford it, it's worth it.

* All the reviews I have read, said that the toaster oven really doesn't do good toast. Also, that not much has changed in the design of these appliances except that the price and size has gone up tremendously.

*After looking at the selection in a local store, I would have to agree. The lower-end ovens felt like cheap imitations of the toaster oven I knew and loved as a kid. Some of them are bigger now - hence the "oven" function - but the price has gone up as well.

* I bought the Breville, took it home and tried it out. I loved it! However my husband didn't like the pricetag in our current economy. I had to return it. But let me say that this oven is worth the money. You get good toast and a good oven. All the features advertised are there and work well. It only takes a few minutes to heat the oven to 450 and has the space to fit a 12" frozen pizza.

* I ended up finding this oven, DeLonghi, on sale through Amazon for $49. which was a very significant markdown. For that price we decided to buy.

* This is a far cry from the Breville: the toast doesn't brown evenly on both sides, it has an annoying ticking sound as the timer counts down, It takes a l o n g time to toast, and worst of all, there is no interior light! However, you can fit a 12" pizza in it, just be prepared to rotate it since this oven doesn't cook evenly.

* Oh, and another feature that I would think would be a no brainer, is to have the rack come out when the door is opened. Of course my beloved Breville has this, but not the rated "D" DeLonghi.

* I would have been very upset if I had paid full price for this. If you can't afford the Breville, and you can find this for a low price, it's probably worth considering. I think DeLonghi is probably phasing this out.

It is getting harder to find a good small toaster oven at almost any price. We had a GE toaster oven that was purchased in the late 1970's. It fit on a 10' deep shelf and took very little space. The rack pulled out when the door was opened had a shiny chrome interior which made great toast and it lasted almost 30 years. When it finally died, we looked for a replacement. The only one that fit in the space we wanted looked almost the same as our old GE. It was a Black and Decker unit and it only lasted a year before the top element burnt out. It also was built very cheaply.

We shopped around and read some good reviews on the Maxi Matic. Price was good and it actually didn't have a cheap feel to it like the B&D. It makes great toast. Heats up fast and is easy to clean. It has quartz elements that seem pretty sturdy. That is the good part. The trade off is that the toasting is regulated by a timer, not a sensor. There isn't a temperature control for baking. The heating elements do not turn off when the door is opened. This is a very basic unit. The switch on top is for off- top element-bottom element or both elements(toast) The bottom is just a timer that ticks very loudly and is maxed at 15 minutes and has markings for light, medium and dark toast. (Use light or it comes out burnt)

If you need a toaster oven in a small space this is a decent unit. What's sad is that all the toaster ovens in this category are crappy compared to what was available 20 years ago. Price wasn't an issue. They are all crappy

I bought this on Amazon to replace a series of Black & Decker toaster ovens which kept dying over the years. I wasn't sure of what to expect when this arrived, but I've been using it daily for the past 2 months, and I am pleased with its performance.

The upper knob controls which heating elements are on: top, bottom or both. I use "both" for general toasting, and "top" to melt cheese on my English muffin in the morning.

The lower knob controls how long the elements are on. The off position is 12 o'clock. If you turn it to the right, it acts as a timer knob, and shuts off and rings a bell when it reaches 12 o'clock. The further to the right you turn it, the longer the elements stay on. If you turn the knob to the left, it only turns to 11 o'clock, and causes the elements to stay on until you manually turn the knob back to 12 o'clock.

That's the extent of the controls. Extremely simple.

One thing I found was that the metal tray supplied with the toaster oven fits very tightly. I solved this by using an old tray from one of by B&D ovens - works perfectly. The metal rack on the toaster oven comes out, has a few settings, and you can flip it over to change the orientation (it rises in the center from the sides a bit).

I tried to bake a chicken pot pie in the oven, and had mixed results. I set the upper control so both elements would come on, and put the pot pie onto the tray (to catch spills). I turned the bottom knob to 11 o'clock, and left it to bake. After the time specified on the pie box, I found that it really wasn't cooked through enough, and needed more time. I haven't put a thermometer in the oven to check it out. I had better luck with sweet potatoes, but I pre-cooked them in the microwave to start the process.

Am I disappointed? A little, but I can live with it. I have other appliances (including a larger counter top oven) which can do the job when needed. I primarily bought this to toast my bread and muffins, and to melt (top brown) stuff on top. For that, it works just fine, and I'm happy with it.

So far, so good. I can recommend this product to you.

This toaster doesn't offer the features these other reviewers were wanting.....if you want to toast bagels, and want to cancel the toasting before it burns, what you want is the Rival TT 9260 toaster elsewhere on AMAZON for about $12.95. It has the features this lacks: when done, you can raise the toast out of the toaster so you can get it easily, there is a self-adjusting bread guide that grabs the bread at whatever thickness it is and holds it centered in the slot. The Slots are sized for bagels and Texas Toast, and there is a handy button on the outside that cancels the toasting and ejects the toast in the usual way. It only comes in white however.......

Usually consumers Reports' ratings lead me to excellent products. in the case of this toaster, It seems impossible to use the "toast lifter" without using so much force that you launch the toast all over the room. If you have guessed right about the darkness you want, the toaster lifts the toast out nicely. If you want to stop the toasting process early, nothing works but brute force. At $10 the toaster problem isn't worth returning the item in hopes that a replacement would be different. I am getting pretty good at catching the toast as it flies by.

This oven only does slightly better than a typical rotisserie or toaster type oven. If you are broiling a steak, unless you like your meat well done, you should start with frozen meat in order to get a browned surface with a pink center. The recipe book that comes with it only has a few examples and the pre-programed selections do not accomplish a proper product without adjustments to the time. It has a setting for rising crust pizza (like DiJourno) which starts with 14 minutes. A regular oven is 22 to 25 minutes. At 14 minutes, the pizza had risen but the crust was still very soft and the cheese was not even browned at all. I added time, and ended up at over 20 minutes with a pizza that was too soft and floppy. The same with frozen french fries. I expected a web site that would give more direction in how to use the oven but all the B & D web site has is the recipe book in pdf form.

As far as the rotisserie, the oven is not really big enough to even accomodate a medium sized chicken. I did do a small pork roast which came out nicely done. But it had to be a small roast to not touch the element guards. For the price, I was rather disappointed.

They crisp up fast foods from the freezer wonderfully and cook meat juicy on the outside and browned well on the outside. you can cook multiple things at one time. put items in foil like vegatables with seasonings and cook your meat and potatoes also. for teens and singles its the best. you can cook a whole meal easily and quickly. cleanup is ok. the nonstick surfaces aren't as nonstick as they could be.pans and racks have to be soaked a little to get clean but they can be put in the dishwasher.

This is our 3rd jet stream oven. We really prefer the older model USA model, rather than the 4000T model made in China model. We are not found of the electronic components.

However, this product is great, does a wonderful job on cooking london broil, steaks, chops, bacon and spare ribs. We used our jet stream oven just about every day. It is fast, quiet, doesn't heat up the house and is energy efficient.

Our jet stream has bit the dust, so we have another one on order. We truly miss this product!!

This is without a doubt the best toaster I have ever bought in forty years and very reasonably priced. The toaster has a real nice appearance and sits well on the counter securely. I was drawn to the brand name West Bend as making really good quality products and they have not let me down with this product.

The toaster has three easy to use features right on the front and a red light which goes on when the toaster is actually being used. You can even put bagels in this toaster. I just bought this toaster oven yesterday and have used it three times so far. First, it is sleek, stylish, and a good size for a toaster oven (it can hold a whole frozen pizza woo!). Second, it was easy to set up and the instruction manual was very well written. I was able to use the bake, warm, and toast functions without much problem. The crumb tray is also large and removes easily. With that said, I cannot vouch for other's reviews about it almost causing fires. I think, with any appliance, it is probably a good plan to test the features closely first before adopting a casual attitude. Anyway, I am happy with it so far and hope it lives up to the quality of the Oster brand!

I have owned this junk for several months now. I use it often when I use it, but never over a period of several days. So, I do not use it daily, if I did, I will be buying a replacement right now... a competitors of course. Issues:

The heat does not regulate in it at all.

The glass door is a joke, it does not close due to a catch on the bottom of the left hand side, you have to keep pushing it down so the door will close right.

The blower in it is noisy.

The black paint on it already is showing signs of heating up and discoloring and is looking bad.

The unit is very light, poorly made overall.

There is no shelf on the bottom of the unit if you wanted to make several things at once, you can't.

The rack slips out of the grooves in the sides and falls down.

Oster.... You should be ashamed of yourselves for putting out such garbage. Buyers beware, 199% JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not an expert cook. I live alone and wanted a smaller oven for quick items. I read a lot of reviews and it seemed all the ovens got mixed reviews so I decided on price and style only. They had a fabulous sale on this item so I bought it. I've used it a few times and works fine. I don't know what more one could ask of a counter top oven. You can get a full twelve inch pizza in it (a must for me). It makes toast from cold to done in about three minutes. My friend has a different model and it takes at least twice as long to make toast. I think if you want real quick toast buy a toaster as the bread is closer to the heating elements. It is a convection so you get quicker cooking on some items. It is a real nice size, not as big and bulky as some I looked at yet it is big enough to do the items I want. Has a nice design and easy to operate. It toasts, bakes, broils, has a rotisserie, has a defrost setting. You can use the convection on the bake, toast or broil cycle. I put an oven thermometer in it and turned the oven on. It held a steady temperature at the correct temperature setting. It has a timer for cooking length. It has the modern covered buttons versus dials, which makes it look nice and more accurate settings. Once you get used to it the setting is very easy. It has an oven light which makes it really nice to check on through a large glass door. My friends doesn't have a light and you have to open the door to see whats going on so the light is a very nice option. Now that I have one with the light I don't know if I would buy one without it. The only drawback I can see is the timer light is always on, even when the oven is not in use. One could put a switch on it, pull the plug or just ignore it. I think all counter top ovens have similar drawbacks. Some complain of hot spots but this one seems to heat evenly througout the oven. It has two heating elements on top and two on the bottom. As I said I'm not an expert at these but this thing does everything a counter top oven can do and I think it is one of the best priced convection ovens. Maximum heighth for an item is 6 inches, maximum width for an item is about 12.5 inches. If you are looking for a decent sized, nice looking oven with a lot of options I don't think you can go wrong with this one. Made in China but aren't they all. B&D isn't but my friend has one of those and I wasn't impressed with it but it was cheaper than this one without convection and other options. Hope this helps as one can spend a lot of time reviewing and get no place!! The company was also very nice to work with, good communications.

Looking for a simple toaster that would simply toast bread, I bought this piece of junk. You have to press on the handle several time for the machine to hold the bread and toast it.
Needless to say that it is pointless to try to adjust the lightness/darkness of the bread. This toaster is simply a total waste. I have never seen that.

One hot July day, I had an epiphany. I was thinking, why do I keep firing up my entire gas oven for one or two small items? It makes my whole house hot, takes a long time to heat up, and I hate the broiler because it is on the bottom and I can't see in. I have never wanted a toaster oven and if I ever acquired one would just get rid of it, in the past. Anyway, I decided to go to the local store and check it out and saw that they had toaster convection ovens. How cool is that? They only had a couple of brands and being new to the thought, I decided to go home and research it on the internet. Initially I was going to get the Black and Decker but I didn't like the reviews about it getting so hot. I ended up deciding on a Cuisinart. So, off to the store I went. They had several brands and models set up so I could test the doors, the trays, the controls, etc. Immediately I knew I did not want the Cuisinart. It was $120 ish and looked awfully small. I really did not like the different aspects of the other brands and ended up liking the Black and Decker. The trays slid in and out easily and the controls were no-brainer. I wouldn't even have to read the manual probably. So, off to the house it goes. Walk in...unwrap.....plug in....check out in the manual what the timer does. The reason for the check-out was you have a choice. You can set the timer for a certain time up to 60 minutes or if you prefer to cook something longer or set your own kitchen timer or whatever, you can just set it to stay on. Basically the timer is the on/off switch. Anyway, I threw in some Morningstar Chicken Strips and 15 minutes later voila- done to perfection. LOVE IT! My husband and I checked out the warmth and determined it was not any different than the toaster or any other toaster oven type item would be. The sides were comfortable to the touch and so is the back. The top and front are hot. Well, hello, we used potholders just like we would with our regular oven which gets hot in the front. So, the next day my husband tried out making some melted cheese/ham sandwich with perfect results. And the next day I baked two chicken legs- just right. I can hear that the convection fan works but I have not really done much with it yet because I have never cooked with convection so that will be a later experiement. Anyway, we have only had it a week so I will post further updates if something changes, but so far LOVE IT!

I only use it as a toaster. usually only once per day. After 6 1/2 weeks the toaster knob broke. I don't think the convection button works. It doesn't toast any faster with it on, and it doesn't make any sound. I think a fan is supposed to come on and I don't hear it.

I guess we did better than some of the other people who posted reviews here. The toaster oven lasted close to a year. First the oven and oven dial stopped working and within a couple of days the toaster stopped working.

It wasn't the greatest to begin with. It toasted the top, but barely the bottom. You had to turn the toast over by hand to get it evenly done, and it had to be set to the max to toast bread at all. The oven temperature was a guess.

It was a challenge trying to even contact someone regarding repair/replacement. Black & Decker no longer owns/services their appliances. We spoke to someone at Fox International Ltd who basically said - too bad. Without a receipt (which I didn't have - it was a gift) we were out of luck.

I would stay away from any Black & Decker appliances since they aren't really "Black & Decker" anymore.

Pros...Best toast settings we could find in a toaster oven today.

Cons...Had to post a review of this item after it broke during the 1st week of service. Toaster dial knob broke. Free wheeled. I could have returned it but fixed it instead (void warranty or not). Loaded knob is super glue and stuck it back on. Still working.

Also noisy timer. Annoying.

I was a little leary of paying over $100 for a toaster oven, but I'd done a bit of research online, and liked what I'd read about this Krups FBC1. I'm SO glad I went ahead and got this. It works beautifully - heats up very quickly, easy to use, and all the functions (toaster, broiler, bake) work well. If you toast 4 or more slices at once, you may see a bit of steam emanate for a few seconds, but I think that's just from built up condensation. My kids use it to heat their after-school snacks, so you know it's easy to use. I like the 4-position rack system and the chart showing which level to put the rack at depending on what you're cooking and what method you're using. It's digital which makes it very easy to switch temperature and/or cooking time while it's in use. And it comes with a handy little utensil you can use to hook onto the rack and pull it out to retrieve your food. I wish it came in white, but that's a minor detail. I'm very happy with this purchase!

I've owned a few toaster ovens over the years and this is a very well designed and just all around great toaster oven. Plenty of room and I like how it's easy to use, easy to set time and temperature. Heats up quickly and I like the dual, upper/lower heating method.

The default settings make it easy to get started. The toast feature makes it easy to either quickly make toast or just warm up frozen waffles. I use the default 4 for toast, 3 for frozen waffles, and 1 or 2 to warm up a biscuit or two. No more fumbling around with a dial to try and get it in between markings...

It has a longer than usual 90 minute timer and it shuts off automatically when it's done with five chimes, just great. Looks great too!

This is a nice toaster oven - it is roomy inside, the controls are easy to learn and use, and it heats evenly. It takes longer to toast bread than I would like, but overall it is nicer than other toaster ovens I have used. The instruction manual says to turn on the oven for 15 minutes to burn off any residue (the smell people complain about) before cooking any food. I did this, and had no subsequent problems with chemical odors.

My fiancee laughs because I can't make a trip to the fridge without research. So graduating from a low-end B&D, I first came up with a short list of four toasterovens. After some more research and print-outs (waiters at our table quipping "are we in the market for a toaster oven?") we finally picked the FBC1, despite some hesitation on my fiancee's part if we really needed a kitchen device competing in size with our Isomac espresso maker (...well, close).

Resumee after one month's use:

+ oven heat-up time is neglegible, it's that fast

+ if you've worked in a restaurant kitchen, you've worked with a salamander. The Krups is probably as close as a consumer version gets, including quartz lamps and two broil settings. This thing cranks out serious heat when you need it

+ thermostat measures the temps inside the oven

+ swallows a 9x9 pyrex pan - I was baffled

+ good results as well in toaster-function

+ display illumination goes off after use, saving power (LCD itself stays on)

- measure your counter before you buy; it's not exactly petite (though not a hog either)

- an optional under-the-counter mount would be great

- controls are ok for digital, but take a few times to get used to. My pref (and the only improvement I'd suggest) would be digital settings controlled by turn-knobs.

Would we buy the FBC1 again if it took off into outer space? In a heartbeat, without any further research.

Sure its hot on the outside, but so is a regular oven. That's just the "nature of the beast".

We purchased this one from Target on sale. You can make regular sized pizza in it (why we're sold on it).

I don't like the plastic front. It should be glass.

The controls aren't designed very well, kinda cheap. I manually wound down the timer dial & now sometimes the timer will just stop when it has 5-10 minutes left.

I don't need all the features I don't use grill, it doesn't really do anything. & I don't use the toast feature. Toasting bread & stuff on the stove-top griddle works easier.

Don't buy -- not even on sale! I agree with this reviewer who said -- If you make your toast some other way and need a backup oven, go for it. If you want a toaster that makes, uh, toast... Go elsewhere!

The timer doesn't work - you have to watch it constantly or it burns toast.

Also, after 8 months, the knobs are stripped and now we have to guess when setting the temp and function.

We got this at Target a few months ago. Our toast is ALWAYS burnt or undercooked as there is no way to set it to get it to toast the same way twice. You have to stand there and watch your toast/bagel/waffle/whatever like a HAWK and it's so annoying. We thought it would take us a little time to get used to the settings, but we'd figure it out...but we haven't. And we used it almost every day. If we had all the money for all the bread this thing has burned, we could have bought a top-of-the line toaster oven. I can't tell you how awful this thing is and how miserable it makes me.

Serioulsy, I have to put my toast in b/f I shower, then I shower, dry off...etc...get dressed, do my hair, do my make up, then go out and my toast is just about done! 45 minutes later! This thing is so slow and underpowered I could toast faster on my sidewalk in January. BTW I live in the north. I have 3 friends that have the same toaster and they all agree. That wasn't a typo, the power indicator on the front actually reads "POEWR". How did that make it past quality control?

When I asked for a toaster oven for Christmas, I specifically said "NOT EURO-PRO", but got this anyway. I felt like Eric Forman not asking for an eight-track player and getting one nonetheless...

Anyway, I suppose that this machine does what it's supposed to do, although it does get the kitchen very warm in the process and kinda feels junky. The only issue I have besides the POEWR light is the pan that came with it. It has a raised platform in the middle, which cuts it's usable surface area down to about the size of half a piece of bread. Why would they do that? It makes no sense. So instead of fitting a dozen wings in the pan, I can now fit three, otherwise they'll roll off the slant. Stupid. Great job Euro-Pro!

this unit looks cool. too ad it doesn't work very well. the top heating elements are exposed but the bottom ones are not, so the bottom does not toast as much as the top. there is no way to just preheat it without the timer running. the toast settings are inadaquate for toasting. don't buy this
